Rebirth • John 6:1-15, 26-40 • Beyond Sunday Ep. 11
Where is your mind these days? Is it set on the abundance of our Father in heaven who blesses and answers prayer, or is it set on scarcity and unbelief? Economists are taught to look at the world through the lens of scarcity. In fact, economics is often called the ‘dismal science’ due to its focus on scarcity, conflict, and tradeoffs. Many of us grow up learning how to ‘make-do’, save, even horde for hard times ahead. Being told to share often causes conflict, because typically, our default is not generosity. We do not want to share what is mine. So, we learn to trade-off, and when someone does not play by our rules, we get angry: “Hey! … that’s not fair.
You owe me.” But what about God’s rules, heaven’s economy, his justice, grace and mercy? Why do we worry so much about physical, temporal things–when there is a Savior who says: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes
to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35) … All are welcome and you will be filled.
