Student Pastors

Meet Pastor Juan Soler

Regional Student Pastor | Soccer Fanatic ⚽ | Twin Dad x2 | Lover of Jesus & Community

Pastor Juan grew up soaking in the Florida sunshine, but his calling to ministry eventually led him to plant roots in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina. A lifelong athlete with a special love for the beautiful game (that’s soccer, for the uninitiated), Juan played all through college before trading cleats for commentaries and pursuing his pastoral calling.

He studied at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, earning a Bachelor’s in Pastoral Studies with a minor in Bible and Theology. That deep foundation in God’s Word continues to shape everything he does—from preaching to pouring into students to parenting his two incredible twins with his wife, Andrea.

Now based in Hickory, Juan serves as the Regional Student Pastor for Christ Church, where he gets to love and lead across the counties he’s grown to cherish—Catawba, Iredell, and Alexander. Whether he’s teaching students, cheering on a local team, or sipping coffee with community leaders, Pastor Juan is all about building relationships that reflect the heart of Jesus.

He and Andrea have created a home that’s open, joy-filled, and rooted in purpose—and they’re all-in on helping students know they belong, are deeply loved, and are called to a life that matters.

Meet Jacob Slagle

Student Pastor Statesville Campus | Mental Health Guru | Former College Athlete (Still Has the Moves)

Jacob grew up everywhere—and we mean everywhere. As a military kid, he traveled the globe with his family, picking up new experiences, playing every sport under the sun, and always finding a home in the local church. At 17, everything changed when God grabbed hold of his heart, and Jacob committed his life to Jesus.

He followed his passion for football all the way to Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he played for five years and probably still tells a few game-day stories (just ask him). But God was also calling him to something deeper—specifically, to shepherd students and serve families through counseling. Between the ages of 17 and 19, that calling became clear, and Jacob ran with it.

He earned a Bachelor's in Religious Development with a Minor in Psychology, then went on to complete a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. For the past three and a half years, Jacob has worked at Pediatric Advanced Therapy, walking with kids and families through real-life challenges—seeing counseling as an extension of his ministry and mission.

Now living in Statesville, Jacob brings his heart, his humor, and his disc golf skills to the students at Christ Church Statesville. Whether he’s teaching God’s Word, offering wisdom through hard moments, or just being a consistent presence, Jacob is all in for helping the next generation grow in faith, find freedom, and step into their God-given calling.

Also—ask him about gardening. The man grows things and disciples.

Meet Kevin & Haley Franks

Student Ministry Leaders | Tag-Team Parents of 3 | Pros at Snacks, and Serving Jesus

Kevin and Haley Franks have been part of the Christ Church Northside family for the past three years—and they’ve been all in from the start. Kevin gave his life to Christ and was baptized in 2022, and ever since, this duo has been on fire for helping the next generation chase after Jesus with everything they’ve got.

Together, they’re a power team in parenting and ministry, raising three awesome daughters who are also deeply involved at Northside (you’ll probably spot the whole crew on a Sunday morning). Haley has spent the last two years leading little ones in CCKids' preschool class, and now she’s stepping into student ministry to team up with Kevin—who’s been faithfully pouring into teens for over a year and a half.

Whether they’re leading small groups, organizing game nights, or just showing up with open hearts and open arms, Kevin and Haley are passionate about seeing students grow in faith, step into leadership, and serve others with the love of Christ.

Their mission? To walk alongside students as they deepen their faith, discover their purpose, and realize they were made for something eternal. (Also: they’ll definitely hype you up on your best AND worst days.)

Meet Forrest Locklear

Student Ministry Coordinator Fairgrove Campus | Disc Golf Pro (in his own mind) | Protein Tracker Extraordinaire

Forrest Locklear serves as the Student Ministry Coordinator at Christ Church Fairgrove, where he leads side-by-side with his amazing wife, Savannah. Married during the peak of Covid craziness (yes, they really said “I do” in the middle of a global pandemic!), they’ve been doing life and ministry together for five adventure-filled years.

Forrest is passionate about helping students encounter Jesus in real, life-changing ways—and have a blast while doing it. Whether he's teaching on Sunday nights, leading worship with his guitar, or dominating (or being dominated) in Disc Golf, he brings authenticity, energy, and a genuine love for people to everything he does.

When he’s not at church, Forrest is probably working his corporate job in Charlotte, riding his motorcycle, gaming with friends, or logging his protein intake like a true CrossFit junkie. He and Savannah also love hanging out with their dog, Ted, and the newest addition to the family, a cat named Harvey, whom Forrest is highly allergic to.

Forrest believes student ministry should be fun, meaningful, and full of purpose—and he's here to make sure students know they belong, they’re loved, and they were created for something greater.
