From The Pastor’s Heart: Truth in Love is Better than Lies Wrapped as a Gift.

When I was eleven years old I bought a small Christmas tree at Roses in Greensboro for my bedroom that I shared with my brother.  Within a week the lights burned out and the small pine cones began to fall off.  I was devastated. I felt the manufacturer had lied to me, sold me a fake product that didn’t work.  It looked great on the shelf, and for a week the lights worked. Lies can be devastating to a child, a teen and us adults. This is why Paul speaks clearly to the necessity of knowing God’s truth revealed in Scripture in Ephesians 4: 14-15

“Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.  Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ…”

How is your daily One Year Bible reading going? Are you taking in the truth of Scripture each day?  Are you attending worship regularly and learning in our series how to take your prayer life to a deeper level? What about the spiritual disciplines of prayer and fasting?  Are you tithing ten percent of your income to the house of God? God wants what is best for you and me. Truth in love is better than lies wrapped as a gift. Here are some practical ways you can roll up your sleeves and live into the redemptive life Christ has to offer:

Joshua Celebration

Christ Church intentionally and unapologetically observes each year a chance for us to claim with ONE voice “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord”.  For every person who has joined Christ Church we have committed to worshipping regularly, learning through Life Groups, serving in at least one ministry, tithing our income, praying and inviting at least five persons a month to worship.  Joshua weekend will be  October 19 and 20.  There are many ways to serve at Christ Church and the Joshua Menu will give you many areas to choose from.  We send the menu out ahead of time so you can begin praying how you will serve the Lord in remaining 2019 and in 2020.  For those who have not decided to join CC yet we still ask that you worship regularly, serve in a ministry and join a life group. The Joshua Menu can be filled out online by clicking here.

Trunk or Treat

Sunday, October 27 from 3 until 5 p.m. at  the Mt. View, Fairgrove, Statesville, Northside, and Lincolnton campuses, we will host Trunk or Treat events.  We need donations of candy and persons to serve on this wonderful day that we welcome over 10,000 people combined at all campuses and share God’s love in a practical way.

Gastonia Mission

The Gastonia Mission is “Taking It to the Streets” of the Oaks at Edgemont apartments on October 31 from 6 until 8 p.m. They will be giving away hot dogs and throwing a party for that community.  Stop by Connections to sign up to serve at this event.

Franklin Graham Crusade in Hickory

Christ Church staff and Leadership Team urge you to invite an unchurched friend to join you in attending the Graham Crusade at the L.P. Frans Stadium on October 10, 2019 @ 7:00 p.m. This is a free event with music from Jeremy Camp and a message of hope from Franklin Graham. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. No tickets are required.

Campus Updates

Big things are happening at Christ Church-Fairgrove! Plans have been finalized for our renovations and we will be breaking ground soon, Yay God! The Fairgrove Campus is gearing up for Trunk or Treat again this year on October 27. Make sure you and your family sign up and be a part of this incredible community outreach.  Wooooooooooo! Pastor Chris

Gaston Mission would like to thank Christ Church for all the support and donations for our very successful Back To School Event in  August. We had over 300 in attendance, gave 200 book bags out, and served over 150 haircuts and styles. Due to the event we have seen several first time guests and some have connected to a Life Group. Yay God!

We are also excited about 3 new life groups we are adding this Fall Season. We have a couples, young adult men, and a single mothers life group. We are continuing to get the word out about GT and would ask if you would share and invite family and friends that you may have in Gastonia or surrounding areas. We are currently meeting on 2nd Sunday’s, ( In House), and 3rd Sunday’s  are open to everyone. Please continue to pray for GT and we are looking forward to launching soon. Pastor Vince

From Pastor Chip at Christ Church – Statesville: We’re still enjoying the excitement in Statesville from hosting the Global Leadership Summit to 160 people from more than 30 organizations and churches in early August.  Just this week, Hospice staff contacted me expressing gratitude for the experience of the GLS.  We’re continuing to love Iredell County with dynamic and well led CCKids, seeing fruit from a strategic move from Tuesday to Sunday nights for CCStudents, and Thursday evening Celebrate Recovery.  Recent and upcoming outreach includes the Back2School Bash at Statesville High, Walk to Recovery concert and event in Troutman, helping lead an Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil, Operation Christmas Child collection, and Trunk or Treat.  Jesus is so faithful to continue to touch lives as we work hard to remain faithful in making disciples.
